An updraft explodes against the cap (lid of warm air in the atmosphere) in south-central Kansas on a hot summer day. When storms are fighting the cap, often these pileus clouds form. Pileus clouds are smooth, lenticular clouds found atop storm updrafts. If the cap gets broken, the storm sheds the pileus and continues to develop upward. :)

I'm trying to get good at identifying different cloud types, but so far all I can pick out are the obvious ones like cumulonimbus and cirrus and the like. |D

I'm really glad you had to underexpose the sky to retain the detail in the clouds. The warm light and sullen grays of the lower streaks contrast wonderfully with the dark blue sky. Beautiful!
