Frosty Sun by FramedByNature Frosty Sun by FramedByNature

Canon Digital Rebel XSi
18-55mm kit lens (reverse macro)

On the day I photographed the sundogs/halo/cza it was so cold that the frost on the windows never melted, even when in direct sunlight. It didn't get above 0F that day. This was one of the more intricate frost patterns on the window, silhouetted against the sun.

Please tell me what you think!

I looks like something growing in a Petri dish or one of those "captured" lighting Lichtenbergs. You really capture some interesting phenomena!~

how you get those colors? and how you find the focus using the reverse mount, I can't shot properly with FOV at the thickness of a sheet of paper.

I just backlit the frost by framing the sun behind it, and exposed the shot down a couple steps to get the deep orange color. I brought it into focus by bracing the camera against the windowsill :)

That's a really interesting photograph! When I saw the thumbnail it looked like it was something in a microscope, lol. I'm amazed at how intricate of a pattern it is. Nature is truly a great artist! And so are you for being able to capture this so beautifully!
